  • I haven’t been doing a lot of online browsing in the last few weeks, but on a trip to Target, I noticed they have started carrying the A New Day clothing line in its stores. I have browsed around both in store and online and I am really enjoying the simplicity of the pieces and their ability to be worn at work. I have bought the Utility Popover Shirt it is very comfortable.
  • It's September, which means I have Halloween and fall already on the brain. This Candy Corn Sweater from Modcloth is absolutely adorable. I could see this as a tasteful work wear piece for those who can’t dress up in their office for Halloween.

  • Things have been a little busier than usual around here, hence the two week hiatus, however things are starting to normalize again.

  • I’m ready for fall weather, but I live in Georgia, so I probably won’t actually see fall weather until January. This open-cardigan with faux-suede elbow patches is just making me crave cooler weather even more.
  • I have an empty corner in my apartment and I think a bar cart would be the perfect way to fill up that space.
  • Mornings are not my favorite and more days than not I find myself having a lot of trouble waking up. I really want to get this alarm clock to try and make my morning wake ups a little more pleasant

  • After terminating their relationship with campus fraternities following policy disagreements between students and administration, UC Boulder is bringing back fraternities to its campus. The disagreements stemmed from administration's proposal of policy changes that would put fraternities under increased watch following the death of Lynn Gordie Bailey, Jr. in an alcohol hazing activity. This is creating an interesting dynamic because essentially there will be two Greek systems on UC Boulders campus--the two new campus-affiliated fraternities and then the fraternities who cut their ties with the university in 2005 but continued to operate around campus. It'll be interesting to see if these chapters choose to reaffiliate with the campus fraternal community.
  • Trump donates his second quarter salary to the Department of Education which some are praising as an act of good will. However, Trump's donation is $100,000 while calling for cuts of $9.2 billion to the Department of Education's budget.
  • I love this piece about The Placement Exchange, also known as TPE. TPE is a huge conference where a lot of second year higher education graduate students have dozens of interviews all in the span of three days in the hopes of finding a position in the field. However, TPE is only held in one location each year and typically they are relatively expensive to attend. I have attended as an employer before, but I chose to forgo it when I was job searching this year because of how extremely cost prohibitive the conference and travel was for my graduate assistant salary--a decision which puts many graduate students at a disadvantage each and every year.

  • My jewelry collection is seriously lacking in necklaces. I've been seeing Audrey from Putting Me Together rocking a large gold locket and I have been in love with how much it made her outfits look more cohesive. I am not a big fan of gold jewelry, but this silver locket from Etsy seems to be a perfect fit!
  • I'm seeing more and more of these types of skirts pop up around Georgia and I love the way they look. I am not the biggest fan of the way that pencil skirts fit on me because I always feel like if I get them to fit right in the hips, they don't fit right on my waist which means they twist and turn all day. The elastic waistband on these skirts seems like it'll fix that problem!
  • I'm not a fan of carrying a large purse around when I am going anywhere that is not the office, but I also love to carry around a bunch of things that I don't need while I am out and about. I am considering making the switch to a mini-backpack which seems to be becoming more and more popular. Target, Topshop, and Nordstrom Rack have some cute options to consider.

  • It's been a busy week at the office as school's begin to start their Fall semesters. Right now, I am preparing materials for National Hazing Prevention Week September 18-22nd, and I could not be more excited to contribute to this important week and hopefully encourage some great discussions with collegians.
  • I'm starting to plan my Fall conference schedule and I am so excited to get the opportunity to meet new people within the field and receive some professional development!
  • I'm walking in my local Walk to End Alzheimer's in September. If you would like to make a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association, you can do so here!

Friday Favorites 8.1.14

It's the first day of August which means that it is only 18 more days until the first day of the fall semester and 16 days until I move into my new apartment! I have to say I am ready for fall classes to start so I can get some more structure in my life...

Speaking of structure my number one favorite thing this week is:

1. My Lily Pulitzer Jumbo Agenda in Trippin' and Slippin'
I am not a huge fan of Lily Pulitzer clothing because it is all a little too bright and busy for me. However, I cannot deny that Lily Pulitzer makes some amazing planners.

I am an Education major and I hold a position in my sorority which means I have to keep up with all kinds of different dates and deadlines. The jumbo planner is big enough that I have enough room to write everything out, however, it is not too big that it is a hinderance to take it with me.

I love the fact that is has a hardcover and comes with little save the date stickers for a variety of occasions, and while I don't see myself decking out in head to toe Lily anytime soon, I can see myself carrying around these planners for awhile!

If I could make Co-Optitude my favorite every single week I definitely would because I am absolutely obsessed with it. In this YouTube show on Geek and Sundry, Felicia Day and her brother Ryon Day play various video games with varying degrees of success.

It comes out every single Monday and it is absolutely hilarious, so I highly recommend you check it out. Their sibling banter reminds me of long nights with my little sisters yelling at each other and the tv while playing Donkey Kong Country on the SNES.

Now I have been out of the anime game for quite some time lately. With all of my schoolwork, sorority things, and general life I haven't really been able to keep up a regular anime schedule like I used to be able to when I was in high school. Lately, I have found myself wanting to get back into anime and I have been loving the Crunchyroll free trial.

Crunchyroll is basically Netflix for anime, which is great since Netflix lost a good portion of its anime awhile back (bring back Mushishi ;_;). It's a little under $7 per month for a HUGE selection of anime, which is nice because I get to watch it on my tv (with the PS3 app) and I get to go at my own pace instead of having to search a million years for links to slow streaming spam filled sites on the internet.

Friday Favorites 7.25.14

It's Friday so here are some of my favorite things from the week:

1. NYX Butter Lipsticks
I am completely obsessed with these lip colors. Now I am someone who has never really gotten into lip color beyond a little tinted lip balm, however, these lip colors are the shit. I ended up getting them at Ulta during their NYX sale and I could not be happier.

So far I have three different shades: Honey, Candy Buttons, and  Fireball and I love them all.

They do not dry my lips out. I used the NYX lip primer and the color stays for a decent time even though eating and drinking (although I do find myself having to reapply at least one a day).

2. Pita Bread Pizza
I have been making pita bread pizzas almost every single day of the week this week. I randomly went to the store a few days ago and got some pita bread and was like "Hmm, I can make mini pizza with this..." There are two ways I do this:

a) I just take the plain pita bread, put sauce and cheese on it and then just eat it cold like a giant lunchable. This is for my lazier days.

b) I bake the pita for about five minutes @ 350F until it gets a little firmer and then I put sauce and cheese on it and put it back into the oven until the cheese is melted.

3. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish
I am very impatient when it comes to letting my nail polish dry. I always get the urge to paint my nails at the most inconvenient times (like right before I leave to go out for the day) or I end up painting my nails and having to pee two minutes later.

This is why I love this nail polish so much, I can paint my nails and in about two minutes they are dry enough for me to do basic tasks like carry around my purse or unbutton my pants. The color pay off is pretty good considering the price and while I do wish there was more variety in colors, it is pretty decent. While I still end up reverting back to my "fancier" polishes for special nail effects (think glitter or shiny flakes) when I really want to go all out, I do like the versatility of this simple polish.
